September 25, 2008 – Erica Gilbert Williams (left) and Daphne Williams Fox (center) — granddaughters of the Pulitzer Prize winning poet William Carlos Williams — stand with Melissa Sweet (right), illustrator of A River of Words: The Story of William Carlos Williams.
The three met September 23, 2008 during the William Carlos Williams Symposium in Rutherford, New Jersey, where thousands gathered to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the birth of the man who many consider to be one of the most influential poets of the early twentieth century.
A River of Words is a picture book biography in which Jen Bryant’s engaging prose and Melissa Sweet’s stunning mixed-media illustrations celebrate the amazing man whose poems about ordinary, everyday things have inspired readers of all ages.
