Eerdmans Books for Young Readers publishes picture books, middle reader and young adult fiction and nonfiction. We seek manuscripts that that are honest, wise, and hopeful; but we also publish stories that simply delight us with their storyline, characters, or good humor. Stories that celebrate diversity, stories of historical significance, and stories that relate to current issues are of special interest to us at this time. We currently publish 12 to 18 books a year.

We strongly encourage writers and illustrators to become familiar with our publications and the general trade children’s book market before submitting any material. Please review our books on our news page or at your local library or bookstore to determine whether your manuscript or artwork is appropriate for us. We are also happy to send you a catalog; please click here to request one.

WRITERS
We will consider only submissions sent exclusively to Eerdmans Books for Young Readers, clearly marked “exclusive” on the outside of the envelope (include SASE for reply only) or submissions from authors with whom we already have a working relationship. We do not accept simultaneous submissions, and those sent will no longer be acknowledged or returned even if an SASE has been enclosed.

Please understand that our reply timeline for exclusive submissions is generally 6 months. Please do not call or e-mail to inquire about the status of your manuscript. We regret that due to the volume of material we receive, we cannot comment on manuscripts we are unable to accept.

ILLUSTRATORS
Illustrators may submit samples of their artwork. Please do not send original art; submit photocopies or printed media and include a listing of books you have illustrated. If you would like your submission returned, include a self-addressed stamped envelope; otherwise we will keep your samples on file to be considered for projects to be developed in the future.
